Cleaner Air Grants Pass came together this summer when neighbors discovered a common concern about industrial air pollution causing breathing problems. We found Sustainable Rogue Valley (SRV) to be an empowering, resourceful and welcoming group. Here we can share our problems, explore solutions and network. After discussing Clean Air issues at a couple of SRV meetings, several of us decided we had the zest and purpose to get a subgroup going, now called Cleaner Air Grants Pass. Our name derives from the new Cleaner Air Oregon program which is underway to overhaul industrial air toxics regulations and align them with public health.

We are now affiliated with Neighbors for Clean Air of Portland which has a seasoned and successful campaign going at all levels. With their guidance we’re learning how best to organize for clean air in Grants Pass, both now and in anticipation of the new regulations. Our diverse group is already investigating a variety of avenues such as ways of involving children, using lawn signs to alert people to DEQ Odor Complaint Hotline 1-888-997-7888, networking with Nextdoor social media, and impact of toxics on vulnerable populations and public schools adjacent to heavy industrial areas.
Come to a Sustainable Rogue Valley meeting on the 2nd Sunday each month, 12:30-2pm at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 129 NW E St, Grants Pass.
