Tuesday, June 30 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm – SOCAN Monthly Meeting – In Cold Blood: the global warming guillotine for our buggy friends and foes – Join us for a conversation with SOCAN co-facilitator Dr. Alan Journet who will discuss how we are affecting the viability of many of our temperature dependent friends and foes in the natural world, namely critters that derive body heat from the surrounding environment. Journet will explain why and how these creatures are temperature dependent. He will also discuss how regional temperature trends influence range shift among critters, how warming affects migratory bird nesting success, what climate change means for many diseases and pests, notably bark beetles and forestry, and how monarchs and other butterflies are affected. Journet will close with a brief discussion of how an increase of carbon dioxide impacts these critters. – at the Medford Public Library large meeting room (205 S. Central Ave, Medford, OR)
